🦋 IC Information
Character Name: Lucifer Morningstar
Age: 10,000+. He was around well before humans or even Earth was a reality.
Canon: Hazbin Hotel
Canon Point: Post S1E8, "The Show Must Go On"
Character History: Here.
Canon Abilities:
Flight- As a six-winged being, Lucifer can fly.
Diegetic Music- Coming from a musical world, he can start and finish musical numbers at will that others are capable of hearing and participating in.
Conjuration- What Lucifer can dream, he can manifest, whether it's making sparkles, a mountain of caviar or putting himself in a referee outfit to jazz up a line of lyrics in a song. Primarily, he seems to use it to create props and put on a show more than anything truly useful. He even creates temporary body doubles to give himself back-up singers! (I tend to roll with the caveat that doubles disappear when struck)
Portals- Using his angelic power, Lucifer manifests a portal that he and others can step through. (Obviously, he can't use a portal to leave. It'd be like walking into a brick wall, Wile E. Coyote style)
Teleportation- Poofing from one place to another! (Again, can't use it to leave. He'll just pop a few feet away from his original position)
Pyrokinesis- The capability of manipulating flame and hellfire, whether it's wreathing his body, breathing fire, or setting something aflame.
Shapeshifting- Lucifer can assume the form of any animal to size, but the animal always bears his distinguishing characteristics: The white skin, the cheek spots, accents of gold and typically the top hat. He also maintains a rather 'normal' form that can be changed during times of stress, revealing a more demonic form that includes his tail, lengthened claws, long horns and his burning fallen angel's halo. He also generally keeps his wings hidden for convenience until needed.
Dealmaking- While in canon we have not seen Lucifer make any deals for anybody's soul, powerful beings like Sinner overlords regularly barter for the souls of other beings, and 'deals with the devil' are a given trope in all iterations.
Inventory: His outfit, his apple-ended cane, and his wedding band.
🦋 Personality
1. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
Lucifer's most outstanding trait is his sheer goofy energy. While he is struggling with the trauma of everything he's been through and his situation, it isn't outwardly apparent. He's a showman, was a ringmaster of his own circus troupe (and still obviously dresses like one), and tends to put that forward the most when anyone meets him. It can make him come off like a bit of a showy dick who doesn't take anything seriously- and to a degree he sort of doesn't until the going truly gets tough- but his goal is to delight and entertain, perhaps get people to like him. If people like him and enjoy having him around, then he can start feeling a little more like maybe all the tales about him being 'the most hated being in all of creation' are wrong, that he can maybe make other people happy... like he used to with his wife.
It's his stand-out trait because it loans to a complexity in how Lucifer thinks and feels, especially as another iteration of a figure depicted in countless stories across fiction. It loans a very relatable, organic quality to him. He's a guy with an outer shell of humor, bravado and shiny showiness that speaks of values that far outsize his rather short stature and slight figure, and it all protects a deeply hurt and vulnerable core that is mind-bendingly slow to mend. He's the literal Devil, but he's also a little dork who likes to dance and sing.
2. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
We don't have any titles for them yet, but an effective siren would sing anything in Lilith's discography. The queen's songs, alluded to be deeply empowering to demonkind, would remind Lucifer of earlier, less complicated times when Hell itself was young. Though he had fallen into despair in the wake of his fall, he no doubt has copies of each of her records and likely listens to them often.
To hear them again would hurt his heart in kind. All he would want on any given day is to hear her voice again, short of physically seeing her again. Friends would have a hell of a time pulling him away from the sound or snapping him out of it. How could they, when he is listening to the voice of his first and long-lasting love after being apart from her for goodness knows how many years? Though she disappeared seven years prior to the events of Hazbin Hotel, we don't know how long they have been separated. Judging by the fact that he still wears the wedding ring, he deeply regrets the separation.
3. If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
If Lilith never came to collect Charlie that night she happened upon Lucifer's workshop. The fact that Charlie recalled that night so strongly is indicative of a core memory. It appeared to be the one that opened her eyes to fighting for your dreams, no matter how wild and fanciful they may be. To be reminded of that memory also helped Lucifer realize that Charlie was so much like him.
Lucifer clearly cares for his daughter, even from afar. While he definitely struggled to speak with her over the phone during his rare calls, it was out of a fear- driven by his depression- that she never truly wanted to see him. He was actually surprised that she invited him over to see the hotel, and surprise turned to delight and relief. "My daughter wants to see me! Take THAT, depression!" From that day on, he has since pulled out considerable stops to support her in her project. One wonders what things would have been like if he wasn't kept away from her for goodness knows how long...
4. Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
Lucifer would feel a complicated wave of emotions. Once the understandable shock passes, coupled with the flash of anger that something like the fae had outfoxed and time-dilated someone as powerful as him, it would die down when one simple fact hits him like a ton of bricks: Hell is just fine without him.
It wouldn't come with a sense of relief outside of 'Charlie is OK, then', but instead he would feel a deeper sense of 'everything and everyone left me behind'. After isolating himself for so long in his depression spiral after his fall, stepping into his daughter's life again was no doubt incredibly difficult for him. Any fears he had left him when he and Charlie began to pave a path to reconnect, and being spirited away by the fae would instill a quiet worry in him that she may think he'd broken their promise to never be pulled apart again. But with hundreds of years passing, his fears would be justified, and in turn, he may feel his depression deepen until he works up the courage to seek her out.
